Christchurch based artist and illustrator |
I graduated in 2005 from Whitecliffe College of Art and Design where I completed my Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in Painting and Film. I like to strip back the detail and scratch into the surface of an image, with edge and etch and the occasional splash of colour. There is something about the blank space on a piece of crisp white paper and that balance between filling it completely or simply letting it sit.
Utilising modern technology I can then take my ink and paint and create something else new and digital that can span into a new realm of consciousness. I am still searching for my place in the creative community but will never concede defeat to the inner turmoil that real life must supersede that of the imaginative universe. Apart from being an artist, which I still say with trepidation, I am also a new mum to a delightful little girl, a wife to the biggest kid I'll ever know and a self proclaimed geek and Star Wars fan. I often engage my creative side in costuming endeavours as well as crafting and sewing projects that can sometimes take on a life of their own. The hardest part about having a creative or artistic mind is that it never really stops, so even if you do find your place and can etch out a living from it, you know that there will always be another painting, another drawing, another project. |
